Powerful True Story Chronicles Woman’s Triumph After Unspeakable Heartaches

In 1979, life changed dramatically for Soheila Adelipour and her family. Fleeing chaos and persecution in Iran following the Islamic revolution and landing in New York, this family found stability there and worked hard to achieve education, jobs, spouses and children. But life had yet to take its cruelest toll.

Chronicling their experiences in Dancing to the Darkest Light, Adelipour recounts how her only brother became a neurosurgeon while others followed different paths. But their successful relocation and the joy they felt over each triumph was soon shattered when the Adelipour’s second son, Stefan, was killed in a dorm room fire before his scheduled graduation from Boston University.

Adelipour channeled her grief into the foundation she established in his name. Soon after, her older sister had to undergo five brain surgeries that left her blind and deaf before ultimately claiming her life. The same week, their only brother who was supervising her care was diagnosed with leukemia. Adelipour gave him her bone marrow and 60 percent of her liver when his liver stopped functioning. Doctors ultimately announced he was cancer-free with a perfectly functioning liver, but the week he was to come home, he died from pneumonia.

How one perseveres under the weight of all this loss is at the core of Dancing to the Darkest Light. “When life plays different music, we have to be fluid and dance to the new tune,” Adelipour said.

Adelipour received her bachelor’s degree in business and her master’s degree in Art Gallery Management while her first two children were in diapers. She was involved with the World of Arts and Antiques in New York City and followed that by operating high-end gift stores.

Drugs, Money And Cancer Challenge Ultimately Transform Texas Woman

Amy Herrig loves dogs, the Dallas Cowboys, her husband and, of course, her family. You might find her cooking up a gourmet meal, reading a good book or discussing the latest movie she’s seen. She’s as American as apple pie, and one would assume that her life has been a series of successes. Except it hasn’t.

In her memoir No More Dodging Bullets, Herrig recounts her struggle with heroin addiction during her teenage years and, as an adult, an addiction to money. She and her father were the successful owners of a number of businesses, raking in the profits and enjoying all that it could buy when the government slapped them with a lawsuit that threatened to strip them of everything, including their freedom. During that four-year battle, she was served with another notice: she had breast cancer.

Her struggles, she says, have served to provide her with a new perspective and have deepened her faith. “All the bullets I’ve dodged and all the things that have happened made me realize how lucky I am to be alive,” she says.

Today, Herrig volunteers regularly and has founded the nonprofit, Hopeful Tuesdays, to assist the homeless in her community. She and her family enjoy spending time in Alaska, helping to run the family business there and spending time hiking and fishing. A self-professed foodie, she’s frequently hosting dinner parties and delving into meaningful conversations with her close circle of friends.

Peace Activist French/American Disobeys Israeli Court Order: Went Underground In Palestine

Frank Romano, Ph.D, disobeyed a court order to leave Israel and Palestine on September 25, 2018. Romano, preferring to continue his work in Palestine, disobeyed the court order and went underground to avoid arrest.

Romano then worked with a team of lawyers in Ramallah, West Bank, preparing a case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Secretary of Defense Avigdor Lieberman and others, before the International Criminal Court for War Crimes, Crimes Against Humanity and other serious international offenses.

In 2018, Frank Romano and other activists stood in front of an Israeli bulldozer preparing for the destruction of a Bedouin village ─ Al Khan al Ahmar in the Jericho Valley, West Bank. He was promptly arrested and imprisoned in Jerusalem. He was thrown into a cell with four hardened Israeli criminals who immediately attacked him, striking and stabbing him with a sharp object. Bloodied and injured, he broke away from the onslaught and pounded on the door. After the guards came and saw the dripping blood, they pulled him from the cell and locked him in solitary confinement.

The following day, Romano was to stand trial in Jerusalem. The police, instead of taking him to court for the trial, drove him to the airport after an Israeli Military Court convicted him of a felony and ordered his deportation. When the judge became aware of the police duplicity, she ordered them to return Romano to Jerusalem to stand trial. After the trial, he was acquitted and released.

For a decade, through interfaith grassroots efforts, Frank Romano has brought Jews, Muslims and Christians together from all corners of the world in support of peace. However, this was a voyage into a tense war zone, the first time defending Palestinian Bedouins, and he has a story to tell.

In Love and Terror in the Middle East (5th Edition), Romano recounts this last voyage to the troubled Holy Land. It covers his arrest, his experiences in jail, his living under-ground in Palestine, and then his second arrest and subsequent deportation. He presently lives and works teaching French in the Sabra and Chatilla Palestinian and Syrian refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon.

Tenured Professor: University of Paris

Former Competitive Athlete, Dancer Uses Own Healing Journey To Guide Others On Their Paths Toward Better Health

Almost nothing in the human experience can compare with having achieved the peak of wellness and performance and then having it all ripped away in a heartbeat. Kristin Hagen knows what that feels like.

Hagen at 19 was a competitive dancer with Team USA, a national award-winning organist, an original artist and a contestant for Miss Idaho USA. But it was 1994 and the airbag in the car in which she was riding was first-generation and high-powered enough to cause her serious injury. Three years later, lightning struck a second time and Hagen was once again the victim of the redesigned airbag, this time suffering severe and immediate demobilization from the sheer force of the deployment.

Through her faith and evolving 21st century healthcare, however, she was able to successfully reverse the effects of the trauma and recover her former level of wellness and mobility, essentially effecting her own cure. Hagen literally walked away from her experience with a profound respect for the ongoing shift in the way medicine is practiced, delivered, and integrated. Align Above: My Passionate Dance at Life! is the first in Hagen’s five-plus book series (with accompanying adapted screenplays) that Hagen says she hopes will motivate people to embark on their wellness journeys. Her screenplays, based upon her Align Above series, are available to movie producers serious about adapting her story into an original film.

“It’s time to make a movement, time to make a change and time to be truly well,” she says.

These days, Hagen provides many perspectives on health and wellness, including in the areas of nutrition, hands-on clinical care, nursing and clinical informatics, and advocacy. She develops custom solutions for clinicians and patients, designed around their needs.
